As a scaled model of Earth's ecosystem, Biosphere II is an ambitious effort to replicate the planet's complex environmental web within a controlled setting. Pacific constructed a one million gallon, 35-foot-deep living ocean with nutrient removal system and tidal cycles for the marine biome. The ocean system is equipped with a wave generating mechanism, a recirculating system, a tropical lagoon, and a Caribbean beach. In addition, Pacific constructed other elements including an everglade estuary, saltwater and freshwater marshlands, and a stream that courses down a 50-foot mountain into a pool.
